A carton, also known simply as a box, is a type of container usually constructed from cardboard, which may be used for packaging, transportation or storage purposes. Cartons exist in a variety of shapes and sizes, according to their purpose. Egg cartons, for instance are specially molded into the shape of an egg, to provide maximum protection. Similarly, the tops of juice and milk cartons are specially designed to facilitate pouring, and are aseptically sealed to prevent contamination. While cartons are primarily designed for protection, transportation and storage, marketers may also use cartons as marketing vehicles, by using graphic design techniques to catch the eye of potential buyers.
