Logos

A logo is a unique combination of graphics (including symbols, pictures and icons), and text which represent a particular company or brand. A logo is designed to make an institution, organization or brand name immediately recognizable and is an important component of its brand identity. Because a logo identifies an entity, its shape, color scheme, fonts and other graphics are specially selected to make it stand out.
While logos have traditionally been used to identify corporations, institutions, organizations or brands, some countries with strong tourism industries also use logos to promote and market their country to potential tourists.
Currently, with increasing globalization, there is a move away from using text and names in a logo, to create recognition in countries and cultures where the characters may not be recognizable. Most well-known global brands therefore utilize colors, pictures, signs, icons or symbols in their logos rather than text. If text is used, it is almost always used in conjunction with graphical elements, rather than on its own, to facilitate cross-cultural and cross-country brand recognition.
Some companies also create dynamic logos, which change according to the occasion or setting. This is typical for websites or television channels, where the colors or words are changed in honor of the occasion. Yet, some basic characteristics and features are always retained to remind the target audience that the basic entity has not changed.
Because logos create brand recognition, companies do not redesign them frequently. Instead, they spend time and effort to create them perfectly the first time. For this reason, logo design is considered to be a very important field of graphic design, and requires a great deal of creativity and hard work.
