Annual Reports

Annual Reports were typically intended to simply provide a report of a company's activities in the previous year. Previously, annual reports would present only the financial statements of the company, along with footnotes and reports from the CEO, chairperson and auditors in as simple a format as possible with minimal embellishments or glossy artwork.
Eventually, however, marketers realized that annual reports were not just a legal requirement, they also represented the company in front of outsiders. As such, they needed to be made colorful, creative and visually appealing, so that others would be interested in looking at them. The scope of the annual report was also increased to include more than just the dull and boring financial information. Any piece of news was considered for inclusion that could create a good impression of the company in front of its stakeholders. Annual reports now mention any activities related to corporate social responsibility, events, concerts, functions, exhibitions or fairs that the corporation may have organized or employees may have attended during the past year. Stakeholders are reminded of the mission and values of the organization. Most annual reports also include information such as market share growth rates, new products launched, new markets entered into, or possible areas of future expansion.
All this is packaged in a booklet in which the latest graphic designing techniques are employed to make the document as attractive as possible. The covers and the news and highlights sections are decorated with photographs and other graphics to increase interest in the annual report and to make people want to read it.
